I been tryin’ to get to New Orleans (Can’t you help me?) Part 3

Riding down mei-nika on a brief trap back to my adopted homeland, I hear it.

A call, response, traditional inflection and a smart lyrical toughness out of step with the present, yet utterly modern.

Groovy, swaggering hip hop inflected jazz drumming underpinning… I know what this is. I feel it in the heart, my lawns, ain’t no mistakin, tis Nawlins.

The DJ wraps up, he tells me: Galactic with Irma Thomas. Toldja now, didn’t I?

I been tryin’ to get to New Orleans an’ think I might’ve just gotten closer. Can you help me? I’ll see ya there.
